LETTER – The vilification of our British heritage has got to stop

Re: EDITORIAL – New rule from the NDP – don’t call yourself a British Columbian

Thank you for your article re: the above.

I visited the B.C. govt site “Terminology in Indigenous Communications”  after a similar article in the National Post. In addition to what you pointed out, did you see their suggestions for bureaucrats regarding wording?

Use ‘implement’ instead of ‘execute.’

Why, you might ask?

The site then states, “Consider that in 1864 the provincial govt asked to meet with Tsilghot’in Chiefs and then hanged 5 of them on Oct 26.1864 just north of the Quesnel hospital.”

Yup, totally mis-characterized a pivotal moment in the Chilcotin War. No mention about 8 arrested out of 24 suspected of murdering 19 people.

I guess it’s more important to be politically correct rather than correct. This kowtowing to FNs and vilifying our British Heritage has got to stop!
