Kamloops is far better at fixing amenities and infrastructure than it is at building them.

In the past number of years, we have spent tens of millions of dollars repairing and upgrading our existing public pools and arenas, paving roads and replacing the pipes that run beneath them.

The Noble Creek Irrigation System, of course, is a notable exception.

What the city hasn’t done to a significant degree is build anything new.

Active transportation routes and parks, yes. Public facilities like arenas, pools and performing arts centres, not so much.

Why? It’s not necessarily popular.

Are we ready to accept responsibility for putting the next two generations of citizens in debt because of something WE want?

The arrogance of Mr. Peter’s latest scolding of those who have a different opinion is exactly what some of us have come to expect from him. Most voicing these opinions have NOT said we oppose the PAC. We have said not at the proposed location and we want to know why $7,000,000.00 to finalize a design plan that some have said was already done. We as taxpayers are paying for this. We have the right to ask these questions.

instead of scolding the taxpayers perhaps Mr. Peter’s should be looking for these answers.

The city should focus on filling “needs” before satisfying “wants.” I support a PAC but let that be our one big “want” instead of frittering away money on things like an outdoor skating rink in one of the warmest spots in town instead of more covered ice surfaces to fulfill our Tournament Capital needs.

Better to ask for things like damaged infrastructure that doesn’t get repaired (beside Mustard Seed). A gauntlet under the Overlanders bridge where you can get assaulted by a mob in peace and quiet. A cracked and broken Rivers Trail. And paved roads that end up looking like they have wagon marks so deep that your tires shimmy back and forth in them. All the while being taxed %11 percent per annum.

Council can’t even get the marquee sign they already agreed on built. I think you’re asking far too much of this city.

Mr. Peter’s, rename your column to Nine & Out, and leave your grandiose expectations at the door. This is Kamloops, not some mythical functioning municipality that you see on TV.

  I agree that if Kamloops properly looked after all it has we would be a much more “livable”, lovable and attractive destination.

Here in Kamloops I wish we had a city that truly cares and understands the seriousness of the environmental/climatic issues facing us. Kamloops is located in a unique and beautiful area. A frantic city does not make for great livability.
