Police are reminding the public that investigation continues into the murder of a Kamloops man two years ago.

Jan. 29 was the second anniversary of Jagraj Dhinsa’s murder, and the Southeast District Major Crime Unit (SED MCU) said today (Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024) the investigation into his death is ongoing.

We are asking anyone with information related to this investigation, including Mr. Dhinsa’s activities and whereabouts leading up to his death, to please contact the police, says Staff Sergeant Jason Smart, NCO i/c SED MCU.

The murder of Jagraj Dhinsa was a senseless act of violence and the investigation remains a priority for the SED MCU. It is important to police that the person(s) responsible for his murder be held accountable and it is even more important for Mr. Dhinsa’s family to be provided with some semblance of closure so that they can begin to heal from the terrible ordeal.

On Jan. 29, 2022, around 8 a.m., police received a request to assist ambulance in a parking lot on Chilcotin Road. Frontline officers attended and located a deceased man who had suffered obvious injuries.

Following an autopsy, the BC Coroners Service and investigators have confirmed that 18-year-old Jagraj Dhinsa was the victim of homicide. His name was released to help further the developing investigation.

Evidence found near Dhinsa’s body linked him to a black 2014 Honda Accord located on Dallas Drive at Lafarge Road in Kamloops.

Since the discovery of Dhinsa’s death, numerous police officers continue to work collecting evidence related to the investigation, including members of the SED MCU, “E” Division Serious Crime Unit, Forensic Identification Service, Police Dog Service, Kamloops Detachment Serious Crime Unit and General Investigation Services Team, and Tk’emlups Rural Detachment members. The BC Coroner’s Service is also conducting an investigation.

Anyone with information or surveillance that may be related to this investigation is asked to call the SED MCU information line at 1-877-987-8477.

Police said the cause of Dhinsa’s death will not be released at this time, “to protect the integrity of this ongoing investigation.”
