LETTER – Concrete barriers for new Westmount pathway crowd traffic

(Image: John Noakes)

Has the new construction along Westsyde Road at Westmount been for the better or worse?  A line of concrete barriers were put in place to separate Westsyde Road from the new pathway.  I thought that with winter coming, we usually get a big dump of snow.  How is that going to make things for snow relocation?

Standing waiting for the #3 Westsyde bus to Northills Mall, I had a great view of the road and morning rush hour of traffic from Westsyde.  I took a few photos; in this one you can see the top of the line of concrete barriers.  You can also see where there are no barriers within 25 or so feet of the bus stop.

There is quite a difference with how far back the belly plow or grader can push the snow from the roadway.  Effectively, the travelled portion of the roadway has been reduced by a couple of feet, I am guessing.  The two lanes have been compressed in width with not much room between vehicles travelling parallel to each other.

Citizen of Westmount
