LETTERS – More thoughts on those speedy little men on bicycles
Re: EDITORIAL — It’s time to crack down on those frenetic little guys on bicycles
I agree with your comments about the careless cyclists who drive freestyle through the streets without regard for pedestrians or cars.
Last year I had an encounter with one. I was inching my way out of the back alley onto Fourth. I actually stopped with the front of my vehicle sticking out onto the sidewalk then slowly moved forward.
I was fully across the sidewalk when one of these “cyclists” came barreling down the street looking over his shoulder. He managed to brake but collided with my front tire and fell to the ground.
I bailed out to make sure he was okay. He jumped to his feet and said I’m okay. At this point I noticed his blue jeans had been cut from the bottom right up to the waist line. I had to ask “what’s that from?”
His response, “Oh, I just came from emergency at the hospital and they cut my jeans to check my leg. I was hit by a car on my bike.” Yep. Racing from the hospital having just being hit by a car and run into another.

And what about shopping carts and recycle bins?
Same broken-window policing could be applied to the folks with the shopping carts they have not legitimately purchased or the recycle or trash bins they drag about and cannot prove they pay for legitimately through their city bills. It’s called POSSESSION OF STOLEN PROPERTY, a charge easier to prove than theft under $5,000.
But then they will continue to steal the child strollers and pull wagons that they acquire in their speedy night and day quests. The bikes they cruise on after spray bombing black, switching out gears, struts , brakes or tires to be so smart.
Meanwhile, legitimate owners are stolen from and left frustrated and angry with broken knobs and locks and trashed doors to fix. And another bike disappeared.
