Bike rider arrested for breach
A series of bicycle Motor Vehicle Act infractions led to police discovering a man who was allegedly failing to comply with his probation order.
On Monday, Dec. 11, 2023, around 4:10 a.m., a police officer was conducting proactive patrols on the North Shore when he saw a cyclist who failed to stop for a red light on Tranquille Road, had no lights affixed to his bike, and was not wearing a helmet. The officer conducted a traffic stop and discovered the man was not in compliance of his court-ordered curfew.
The man was arrested and held in custody for a bail hearing.

I think the officers should do more proactive patrols for all the modified mega-diesel with tinted windows out there. Not only they contravene well defined motor-vehicles act rules but who knows what they could find inside them that contravene even more laws and regulations?

There are so many available tools to leverage in making trouble makers uncomfortable in this town. Handing out tickets for no helmet is one of them, which comes with the potential bonus of looking at the bike serial number.
The obvious question being if you can afford the bike, you should be able to afford the helmet.
Alas, people seem to like the status quo. Or at least not dislike it enough to badger Council so they get the hint and do something.
It’s taken Coun. Hall and Coun. Neustaeter this long to realize that sending fire trucks around 24/7 to respond to overdose calls isn’t the best use of taxpayer funds, and attempt to do something about it.

I noticed with the last one about the bike rider:
How many people in town have seen ‘bike riders’ like this (all to often appear to be riding a bike they seem unlikely to be able to afford … with the bike itself seemingly missing either a seat on it at all, or at least at the lowest possible physical setting for seat height) … meander aimlessly through red lights, cut off drivers by launching themselves across a street mid block, no onboard lights … and never a helmet, and of course never, ever, notice any car traffic at all?
Let me answer that for everyone: every citizen, every day.
… and its ‘news’ that one of these riders was noticed by police.
