NATIONAL PULSE – Satisfaction with federal government services rebounds
By ANGUS REID INSTITUTE
November 22, 2023 – It was evidently a calmer summer for many Canadian travellers after the delays, lineups, cancellations, and at times, chaos, of the 2022 summer travel season.
When the Angus Reid Institute asked last year, just over half (54%) of Canadians were satisfied, leaving more than two-in-five critical of their experiences with accessing federal government services. Now, seven-in-ten (69%) say they were happy with their interactions with federal government departments, matching satisfaction levels seen for municipal (73%) and provincial (70%) services.
These data reflect some year-over-year improvements from the federal government. For example, times for passport applications have reportedly returned to pre-pandemic levels.
Still, not everyone is satisfied. At least three-in-ten are unhappy with their recent experiences (within the past six months) accessing government services from the three levels of government. That includes more than half (53%) of past Conservative voters say they were left unsatisfied with their interaction with the federal government. Past Liberal (80% satisfied) and NDP (78% satisfied) are more positive in their assessments.
