PUBLIC ART – New home for iconic bronze bull found at truck park

The bronze bull that once resided at the entrance to Riverside Park has been given a new home. After a much-needed makeover, artist Joe Fafard’s iconic bronze bull sculpture, Obilix, is back on public display.

In 2022 the City of Kamloops and the Kamloops Arts Gallery removed the bull for restoration work after repeated acts of vandalism.

Fafard is a Canadian artist best known for creating figurative bronze sculptural work and sculptures of animals in a realistic style. Through an ongoing partnership between the KAG and the City to present the KAG’s collection in public spaces throughout the city, the permanent site chosen for Ibilix is the Kamloops’ Truck Chilling Park at the corner of Bunker Road and McGill Road.

The passive green space was recently transformed into a home for heritage-themed trucks and equipment. A plaque will soon be added to the greenspace offering more information about the sculpture.
