EDITORIAL – Those surveillance cams rob us of privacy but solve many crimes
An editorial by Mel Rothenburger.
A COUPLE MORE police incidents made the news Monday and Tuesday — one a shooting and the other the roadside discovery of a body.
The shooting reportedly occurred at a riverside tent camp along Schubert Drive. A 40-year-old woman was taken to hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds. No doubt, the incident will have set tongues to wagging over the homelessness issue in Kamloops.
“They really must do something,” will be the theme. “Oh, great, now the homeless have guns and are shooting each other,” people will say.
There was even speculation that the shooting was somehow connected to the discovery of a body on the Paul Lake-Pinantan Road that shut the road down for an extended period.
But that’s just people talking.

Maybe I don’t understand your comment. We relocated to Westsyde 15 years ago, (now 76 years old) for the flat bike riding. We used to ride the river into Town, then to the airport, lunch at the golf course and home by river walk / trails. Sometimes walking the river only. The last 2 years we have not been on the trails.
We started to load our bikes and drive to Town, ride Riverside Park or MacArthur Island.
Both those areas have now had violence even hurting RCMP.
Today we walked Riverside Park and noticed several big camps set up along the river.
It is so far out of control and I blame The Federal Liberals for no action.
That’s my 2 cents worth.
