POLICE – 40-year-old Kamloops woman in serious condition after shooting

The Kamloops RCMP detachment is asking anyone who may have been a witness to a shooting Monday evening to call police.

Just before 5:30 p.m. on Monday, July 31, RCMP were called to Schubert Drive near Richmond Avenue to assist B.C. Emergency Health Services.

When officers arrived they located a woman, a 40-year-old from Kamloops, suffering what appeared to be gunshot injuries. She was taken to hospital and remains in serious condition.

Kamloops RCMP officers with assistance from police dog services flooded the area in an effort to locate the suspect, who was described as a Caucasian man, with a shaved head, wearing black shorts, and a white tank top.

“At this point we believe the victim and assailant were known to each other and this appears to have been a targeted shooting,” said Supt. Jeff Pelley.

The area of Schubert Drive and Richmond Ave remained closed Tuesday afternoon, as officers continued to canvass the area for witnesses, video surveillance and evidence. The scene was expected to be released later this evening.

“We are asking anyone who may have been in the area of Schubert Drive and Richmond Ave between 4:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. on Monday, July 31, 2023 and has information to call us.

“This includes anyone who may have been walking through the trail system, on the beach or traveling or resides on the roadway, and may have surveillance video,” Pelley said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and cite file 2023-27542.

The latest smear campaign is a “code of conduct” report by a company hired by the think tanks at City Hall. An ordinary citizen recognized the need for change, he ran for Mayor and won and look what is happening to him.
Schubert Drive was a gem and a very desired place to live. Joyce is right on the money with her comments.
Thank you Mel for being an “old school” journalist who allows both sides of a story to be published. Thank you.

If it isn’t already abundantly clear, elected municipal officials and Bylaw services are abdicating their responsibility to protect the community by allowing illegal homeless encampments to fester unchallenged. Nary a finger is lifted to clean them up.

Illegal homeless camps are not safe for the people living in them, nor are they safe for the surrounding community. As predicted by many, Kamloops now has its own shooting victim related to an encampment.

It is outrageous that there are individuals high and out their minds, walking around with guns, machetes, and whatever other vile instruments of violence, while being in close proximity to schools, walking paths, homes and children’s parks.

It’s exasperating that still no elected official had a backbone to stand up and do something about this bullshit. We live on Schubert. There are encampments up and down the river.

I wish a lawyer would sue the city for taking our taxes and effectively ignoring their responsibility. Maybe a neighbourhood association and/or business association could take something like this on? Officials don’t seem willing to act so maybe it’s time we force their hand.
