Police are asking for any information to help identify a person and their vehicle that were seen lighting a fire at a construction site early Friday morning.

Just after 5 a.m. today (July 28, 2023), Kamloops RCMP officers were called the 2100-block of Van Horne Drive to assist Kamloops Fire and Rescue (KFR).

When officers arrived, they found KFR extinguishing flames on a fully engulfed compact wheel loader.

CCTV shows what appears to be a heavier set, older person arrive in a brown or gold Honda CRV (potentially between 2005-2006), then carry a jerry can toward the loader and set it ablaze. The vehicle is then seen speeding away.

“We are asking anyone who lives in the area of the construction site in the 2100 block of Van Horne Drive to review their surveillance video footage to determine if they captured this vehicle, or occupants coming or going from the site,” said S/Sgt. Janelle Shoihet. She asked residents to review video between 4:30 a.m. and 5:05 a.m.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and cite file 2023-27066.
