POLICE – RCMP respond to almost 400 calls for service over weekend
The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to about 399 calls for service from Friday July 7, to 9 a.m. on Monday July 10, 2023. Below are some highlights from those reports.
Oil, frozen food stolen from rural business
Oil and frozen food were among the items stolen during a theft in rural Kamloops this weekend.
On July 7, 2023, around 3:30 a.m., Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment received a report of a theft from a commercial location on the 7100-block of the Trans Canada Highway. Two people, one of which was wearing a safety vest, got out of a black truck and stole items locked up outside, before continuing on the highway toward Cache Creek.

Disturbance leads to police presence on the North Shore
A disturbance call led to Kamloops RCMP officers investigating in the area of Yew Street and Mackenzie Avenue last weekend.
Around 9:10 p.m. on Friday July 7, 2023, police responded to a report of a man standing over another man with a weapon in his hand. Upon attendance, a man was arrested for assault and public intoxication. He was lodged in cells to sober up and prevent continuation of the offence, and later released without process.

Man charged with assault by choking
A Kamloops man remains in custody after police were called to Arrowstone Drive this weekend.
On July 7, 2023, around 9:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP officers attended a residence in response to a report in which a person could be heard asking for help. As part of the investigation, a man was arrested and held in custody for a bail hearing.
He is charged with the following: assault by choking, suffocating, or strangling; uttering threats; and assault. He was remanded in custody until his court date.

Vehicle impounded after impaired smack-up
A man was arrested for offences including impaired driving related to a collision on Columbia Street early Saturday morning.
On July 8, 2023, around 3 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers observed a vehicle with smoking and squealing tires on 7th Avenue. As part of the investigation, officers arrested the driver for failing to remain at the scene of an accident in which two parked vehicles had been struck on the 600-block of Columbia Street, as well as for impaired driving.
The driver received a 90-day driving prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impound under the Motor Vehicle Act and violation tickets. Anyone who witnessed or has information related to this investigation is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000.
Assault with bear spray
Police attended the area of Cedar Street and Clapperton Road Sunday morning for a report of an assault involving bear spray.
On July 9, 2023 around 7:50 a.m. Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the area in which a man on a BMX bike allegedly approached another man and deployed bear spray. Police located the victim, then shortly after, arrested a suspect nearby.
Bear spray and knives were seized for destruction. The suspect was lodged in cells and later released as part of the investigation.
Downtown police presence
Kamloops RCMP officers were called to the 600-block of Seymour Street this weekend for a report of a man who had been assaulted.
On July 9, 2023, around 10:26 a.m., officers responded to the area in response and located a man with cuts, who was uncooperative. He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
