POLICE – Canadian Pacific officer injured during Canada Day arrest

Kamloops RCMP are investigating after a Canadian Pacific (CP) Police Service officer was injured while arresting a man last weekend.

On Saturday, July 1, 2023, around 8 p.m., Kamloops RCMP officers were en route to a disturbance report when they were advised that a CP Police officer had located and allegedly been assaulted by the suspect while arresting him.

“Kamloops RCMP officers took over custody of the suspect and arrested him for assaulting a police officer,” said Cpl. Crystal Evelyn.

“The CP officer sustained a non-life-threatening injury. As part of the investigation, police interviewed witnesses on scene, but if anyone else saw or knows anything related to this incident, please do not hesitate to reach out and share that information,” said Evelyn.

The suspect was lodged in cells to sober up, then released with a court date and conditions. Charge recommendations are anticipated as part of the assessment and approval process.

Those with information are asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-23338.
