LETTER – Media engage in victim-labelling on residential schools issue

Re: ROTHENBURGER: In search of a definition for residential school denialism

Good morning Mel. I just read your piece on the so-called “burials”….when questioning a media-inflated narrative becomes “hate-speech,” we will truly be living in a dictatorship.

I love and respect the wonderful Indian (as my friends prefer to be called) people I had the privilege of growing up with, but I utterly despise how the media has again victim-labelled them and furthered the aims of the few radicals in their midst. Sensationalist “journalism” is to be questioned! Always. Mic drop…

  1. ‘Mic drop’ … only works when the preceding statement is impactful and important to the listener … or very occasionally when the someone dropping it, is stepping away from the limelight.

    We’re missing either here.

He lost me at “so called burials”.

Beyond that, all this Mr. Rose did was incontrovertibly prove that he falls flat into Mels definition in the originating piece of … denialism.

That alone disables his argument right there.

Lets remind of actual well recorded facts:

Literally thousands of older people across the country, testified as to their own personal experience at Residential Schools, a large and varied group pretty far removed from his “the few radicals in the midst” type description.

On top of that, he completely negated what it took emotionally for all these people to speak up publicly to the T&R Commission, including the stories of being there when burial stories were witnessed. They did this themselves.
All he does is throw out a ‘so called’.

He says he read Mels piece, did he actually understand it at all?
Did he realize that perhaps he may have been reading a mirror?

Finally charging Mel here of sensationalism in journalism, for a piece very well researched and written … then out of a desire for transparency, he posts Mr. Roses letter for all to see.

I think Mel gets the ‘mic drop’ here.

    I’m out.
I expect Mr. Mike to retort, but I wont be answering.
I dont empower or engage with rhetoric swallowing conspirators.
