CITY HALL – Mayor launches defamation claim against Neustaeter
Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson is suing Coun. Katie Neustaeter, alleging she defamed him in internal and public statements made earlier this year.
The mayor, in a notice of civil claim filed with the B.C. Supreme Court on Monday, seeks unspecified general damages, aggravated damages and punitive damages, and costs.
Comments made by Neustaeter with respect to a meeting her father — long-time former MLA Kevin Kreuger — and the mayor tried to set up with each other, and in a statement issued by council March 17, are cited in the claim.
It says allegations in the March public statement about his conduct were false and defamatory.
It says emails sent by Neustaeter to other members of council and to the mayor in February and March amounted to an attack on his integrity and were intended to diminish his reputation.
It also says that, since the March 17 statement she read on behalf of council during a news conference, Hamer-Jackson has been the subject of innuendo about his personal conduct.
Neustaeter has not yet filed a response to Hamer-Jackson’s statement of claim.
None of the allegations has been proven in court.

Are the KAMLOOPS taxpayer on the hook for theierlegal costs?
Are the legal fees and the on going legal costs of the mayor and the Coun. Katie Neustaete related to this law suit being born by the KAMLOOPS taxpayer?
If so why?
