Have you got an item at home that needs repair, but you don’t have the right tools? Or you don’t how to troubleshoot it? Kamloops Repair Café has got your back. Bring your items to the Kamloops Yacht Club (1140 River Street) on Saturday, June 17 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Repair Café volunteers will assess whether your squeaky bicycle, creaky chair or holey sweater is reparable or whether it’s time to say goodbye. If there’s hope, Repair Cafe “fixers” will diagnose what’s ailing your item and teach you how to carry out the repair.
Among the fixers at this event will be bicycle, woodwork and sewing experts, but anything you can carry in is fair game (except computers and cell phones). Lamps, hair dryers, toasters, clothing, bikes, and toys—if it’s broken, they can help you figure it out. They can even repair some items that are no longer being manufactured.
Since 2018 skilled volunteers have saved hundreds of items from the landfill, reducing waste and the need to use additional resources to manufacture new products. They were selected to receive a 2023 City of Kamloops Climate Action Grant to help the community achieve its Climate Action Plan goals. Keep an eye out for upcoming events at http://www.transitionkamloops.net or on the Kamloops Repair Café Facebook page.
The Kamloops Repair Café is an initiative of Transition Kamloops.
