POLICE – Man arrested after object dropped from bridge on cyclist

A man was quickly taken into custody after police saw an assault involving a cyclist and what appeared to be a rock.

On May 29, 2023, around 1:10 p.m., Kamloops RCMP officers were in the area of the Halston Bridge at Schubert Drive for a check wellbeing request when they witnessed a cyclist get struck in the head with an object as she rode under the bridge. The cyclist was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“Police immediately identified and arrested a suspect under the bridge deck for assault with a weapon,” said Cpl. Crystal Evelyn.

“He was lodged in cells as officers conducted their initial investigation, and later released with a court date and conditions.”

Charge recommendations are anticipated as part of the assessment and approval process. Anyone who witnessed or has information related to this investigation is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-18872.
