WATCHING THE FIRST MEETING the new Kamloops council this week should have left the viewer feeling optimistic.

From a procedural perspective, did it run smoothly? Not always. But that’s okay.

Five of the nine people around the horseshoe have never served in elected office before, including the person running the meeting.

The big test came when Bob Hughes of ASK Wellness was called to the carpet to give a presentation on his organization and its operations.

Reid Hamer-Jackson may be the mayor, but he is certainly not the mayor of the Bob Hughes Fan Club.

Regardless, Hughes’ presentation was both passionate and well-received, with councillors asking relevant and respectful questions.

    I;m not a resident Kamloopsian so am not familiar with your more complex problems but I think your new man and his new council will be an improvement.
