POLICE – Hours-long standoff at home on Yew Street comes to an end

A large police presence on the 100-block of Yew Street was mostly cleared by 9 pm. this evening (July 20, 2022) after a report of possible gunshots early in the afternoon.

At about 1:05 p.m., Kamloops RCMP responded to the report and identified a residence believed to be associated with the suspected gunshots. The public was asked to avoid the area, while nearby residents were advised to shelter in place.

They were advised this evening they could return to the area.

The Southeast District Emergency Response Team, the Police Dog Service Unit, and other support teams were at the scene.

A citizen video appeared to show two people being taken into custody.
