POLICE – Shots fired, man found dead in Columbia Street motel room

A man was found dead in a motel room Saturday evening (Feb. 13, 2021) after police received a call that shots had been fired.

Kamloops RCMP responded at 7:50 p.m. to the Howard Johnson Motel in the 500 block of Columbia Street, where they found the body in one of the units. The death has been deemed a homicide.

Sgt. Jeff Bingley said based on the preliminary investigation the death appears to be targeted and related to the illicit drug trade.

“The Serious Crime Unit has taken over this case, and along with members in frontline policing they  continue to collect evidence and information during these early stages of the investigation.

“There is currently no one in custody in relation to this shooting.”

He said police believe there is not an immediate safety concern to the general public. They are asking that anyone who may have information in regards to the shooting to call the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers.
