Long-time former educator, TNRD chair Walter Winter dies at 96

A long-time community leader, educator and businessman has died.

Walter Winter was 96 when he passed away in Kamloops on July 4.

Winter was one of the early chairs of the Thompson-Nicola Regional District, serving in the position for 13 years. During his long and diverse career he also served as the principal of several schools including NorKam secondary, later operating a trout farm at Campbell Lake.

Fishing and tennis were among his favourite pastimes.

He was predeceased by his wife Joan in 2012. For his full memorial, click here.
