POLICE – Suspect surrenders after undisclosed incident Saturday night

A 36-year-old Kamloops man is in police custody for unknown reasons after an incident that began at an unknown location on the North Shore on Saturday night (April 18, 2020).

RCMP are saying only that they responded to a call for service but a suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, sparking an extensive search by police officers.

At about 11:50 p.m., the suspect vehicle was located at an undisclosed motel in the Valleyview area. A large contingent of police officers converged on the motel and engaged in attempts to bring the matter to a peaceful resolution, Sgt. Brandon Buliziuk said in a news release today (April 19, 2020).

“Based on an assessment of risk, some individuals were required to be displaced from their motel rooms until the situation was resolved. The situation was very visible and involved the use of loudhailers for communication.

“After approximately one hour of communication attempts by RCMP, the suspect surrendered and was brought into custody without further incident.”

Buliziuk said information will be forwarded to the B.C. Prosecution Service for assessment and laying of applicable charges, but he didn’t disclose what those charges might be.

“To protect the integrity of the investigation and the privacy of people involved, no further information will be disclosed at this time.”
