POLICE – Suspect in custody after hit-run, window smashing incident

A 34-year-old man is in police custody today after a rampage Monday night (Aug 19, 2019).

RCMP report that at about 10 p.m. they received numerous calls about a man in a suspicious vehicle. The vehicle had reportedly been involved in a hit and run collision and was then abandoned in the 400 Block of Columbia Street.

Shortly thereafter, calls were received regarding a man in some form of distress causing a very obvious disturbance at a motel in the area. The man was allegedly smashing windows and causing damage to vehicles.

Police found the man barricaded in a motel room. After a short period of negotiations and with the assistance of a police service dog, entry was made to the room and the suspect was arrested.

RCMP said details of the circumstances are being forwarded to the B.C. Prosecution Service for determination of charges.
