POLICE – Man arrested after stolen vehicle rams into police car
One man is in custody after being found in possession of a stolen vehicle and then ramming a police car.
Police said today (May 28, 2019) that on May 24 a Jeep Grand Cherokee was reported stolen to Kamloops RCMP. On May 26 at 1 p.m. there was a report of the Jeep driving erratically in the 1800 block of Westsyde Road. When officers arrived, they found the Jeep parked at a residence and a male and female walking to and from the vehicle.
“When police attempted to apprehend the male suspect, he jumped into the Jeep and took off, hitting the female while doing so, giving her minor injuries,” RCMP stated in a news release.
“The suspect then drove the Jeep into the front end of a parked police vehicle, causing minor injuries to the officer inside of it, before he drove away at a high rate of speed. Officers did not pursue. Soon after, the vehicle was located by police and the suspect was seen exiting the Jeep on Mount Paul Way. He was arrested without incident.”
The suspect is 27 years old and from Kamloops.
All investigational information has been forwarded to the British Columbia Prosecution Service who will determine charges.
The female who had been with the suspect outside of the stolen vehicle on Westsyde Road was not arrested.
