POLICE – RCMP thank wanted man for revealing his location
Jessie Dean Kowalchuk was in a Kamloops courtroom today to face charges in three separate files from 2015.
In December, 2018 Kamloops RCMP released Kowalchuk’s photo to local media as part of the weekly ‘Most Wanted’ segment. Apparently, Kowalchuk saw his photo on CFJC’s website and sent them a message on their Facebook page.
The message said RCMP “had missed the ball” because he had been living in Edmonton, Alberta for three years. CFJC’s newsroom passed the message on to Kamloops RCMP.
Kamloops RCMP then contacted the B.C. Prosecution Service with the information. In January, 2019, the Prosecution Service extended the three outstanding B.C. warrants to Alberta.
On May 10, 2019, Kowalchuk was checked by the Edmonton Police Department, which found he had outstanding warrants from B.C. Kowalchuk was remanded and transported back to Kamloops to face the charges.
“We are very pleased that Jessie Kowalchuk sent the message advising that he was living in Alberta,” said Cpl. Jodi Shelkie.
“It’s important that people who are wanted realize they can’t relocate to avoid their legal issues. Sooner or later, the police will find them. In this case, the suspect aided us by giving his current location.”
