POLICE – Suspect arrested and charged in connection with street robbery
A 21-year-old Kamloops man is facing one charge of robbery.
The man was arrested Monday in connection with an early morning incident April 19. A man was walking by himself near St. Paul Street and First Avenue when two other men approached him, one brandishing a knife.
They demanded his wallet and cell phone, which he gave to them. Within 40 minutes of the robbery, a credit card that was inside of the victim’s wallet was used to withdraw $800 from ATM machines.
Surveillance video showed a suspect using the card at an ATM machine. A few days later the suspect was identified but not located. On May 6, Mikael Wayne Stewart was arrested and has been charged with robbery and using a stolen credit card.
The other suspect has not been identified. Police say there’s no indication Stewart is related to any other robbery that has occurred in Kamloops over the past few months.
