POLICE – Man goes missing after being swept away in N. Thompson River
UPATE: Police now say they’ve learned the man was wearing a striped maroon and green sweater, not a red one, and jeans.
Kamloops RCMP are asking for the public’s help in finding a 23-year-old man missing after a morning swim in the North Thompson River.
At 6:30 a.m. today (May 3, 2019) three friends went swimming in the North Thompson near Chestnut Avenue, which runs between Schubert Drive near the Overlanders Memorial and Fortune Drive near General Grant’s convenience store. One of the men was swept away. His friends tried to reach him and pull him back to shore but were unsuccessful.
Kamloops Fire Rescue deployed their boat on the river immediately after notification but didn’t find the missing man. Kamloops Search and Rescue has been deployed and Kamloops RCMP is using a drone to search river banks downstream from where he went missing.
The missing man is South Asian and is wearing a red sweater and pants. Contact Kamloops RCMP if you see him.
