POLICE – Driver flees after collision, strikes arresting police officer in face
The driver of a car involved in a rear-end collision was arrested today (Oct. 3, 2018) after fleeing the scene and hitting an RCMP member in the face, according to police.
Cpl. Jodie Shelkie said the incident happened this morning at 7:15 after RCMP received a report that a car had rear-ended another vehicle in the 100 block of Tranquille Road.
When officers arrived, they found that the car had been reported to the police earlier in the morning as being driven carelessly around the North Shore, Shelkie said.
However, witnesses told police the female driver had taken off on foot.
“She was located by an officer a short distance away,” said Shelkie.
“When the officer attempted to arrest the female she resisted by striking the officer in the face.”
The 21-year-old woman was then taken into custody. Shelkie said it’s believed alcohol may have been a contributing factor. The suspect is from Kamloops and was previously known to police.
All investigative information will be forwarded to the BC Prosecution Service who will determine charges.
