POLICE – River re-opened after dive team finishes search for the day
The South Thompson River is open to boaters again as the RCMP dive team completed an unsuccessful search for a missing operator of a personal watercraft.
The river had been closed earlier in the day between the Lafarge Bridge and the Valleyview boat launch to allow for an unimpeded search.
Further closures haven’t been ruled out.
Staff Sgt. Mat van Laer reported just after 9:30 p.m. today (July 30, 2018) that no sign of the missing man was found. He said search efforts will resume as soon as possible and the public is asked to remain vigilant while on the water and keep informed of additional possible closures along the river while the search continues.
