LETTER – Roderick Haig-Brown Provincial Park should keep its name

Roderick Haig-Brown.

Dear Mr. Rothenburger, re: Roderick Haig-Brown Park, we could not agree more. The name should remain as is. He was a champion for conservation.

A little factual history on this park: It was my family’s homestead at the turn of the century and was taken by the government for $385.00 in taxes that did not exist the previous year.

As my mother said it might have well been one million in those days and my grandmother/mother and two sisters (recently widowed) could not raise the funds to pay. Dempster/Mckay… My mother Winnifred was given a “homesteader medal” a few years later by B.C. Government.

Needless to say she found this rather like “being kicked by a mule,” and sad. Your commentary is fantastic.
