POLICE – Man suspected of carrying handgun arrested in downtown area
Police had their firearms out as they took down a man suspected of carrying a gun in the downtown area of Kamloops today, April 2, 218.
Staff Sgt. Edward Preto said RCMP received a tip about 1:49 p.m. that a man was seen with a handgun in his jacket pocket while walking in downtown Kamloops. He said the suspect is “well known” to police.
A review of video surveillance from the area confirmed his identity. Extensive patrols were made looking for him and he was eventually found walking on 4th Avenue and Battle Street just before 3 p.m.
Preto said RCMP treated the arrest as high risk and members on the scene had their firearms out during the arrest.
The man was taken into custody without incident and the investigation is continuing, he said. The handgun was not located and police were attempting to locate it.

My personal experience with the RCMP leaves me doubting the claim made in this story. I think the RCMP will use any plausible explanation to justify placing their own security above that of the public.
