POLICE – Impaired driving suspected in collision between vehicle, snow truck
Erratic driving landed a man in hospital and possibly facing impaired driving charges after an incident Sunday night (March 4, 2018).
At 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Kamloops RCMP were notified that a man who was suspected of being impaired was leaving Cascades Casino on Versatile Drive. A police officer was dispatched to the call.
While driving on the Trans Canada Highway the officer saw the suspect vehicle travelling towards him in the wrong lane. After the vehicle passed, the officer did a u-turn and attempted to follow the suspect with his lights and sirens on.
About 150 meters past the Columbia Street overpass, the suspect vehicle collided with a parked highways vehicle involved in snow removal. The suspect driver then got out of his vehicle and attempted to run away, say police.
An employee with the highways crew attempted to detain the suspect by verbally engaging with him until the police arrived on the scene and he was taken into custody.
Both the suspect and the driver of the highways vehicle were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
An RCMP media release said alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the collision. An impaired investigation is ongoing.
