POLICE – Suspected impaired driver hits police vehicle on Columbia Street
A driver was treated for minor injuries today (Feb. 21, 2018) after his vehicle struck a police car head on during an adventure on Columbia Street.
Kamloops RCMP said an officer was driving his police vehicle westbound on Columbia Street when he saw a vehicle driving ahead of him, also in the westbound lane, weaving and striking the snowbank on the median.
The vehicle turned left at 3rd Avenue and proceeded to travel west on Columbia Street but in the wrong lane.
According to the police report, the officer continued on westbound in the correct lane. He activated his emergency lights, turned his unmarked police vehicle around into the eastbound lane and stopped in the far right lane in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The vehicle then struck the police car head on at a low speed.
The police officer did not have any injuries; the other driver had minor injuries and was taken to hospital.
Police suspect the driver was impaired. The investigation is ongoing.
