POLICE – Body found on highway believed to be hit-run victim

A body found in the southbound lane of Highway 5 near the Highway 1 junction is likely that of a hit-and-run, police believe.

Staff Sgt. Edward Preto said RCMP got a 911 call about the discovery at 9:06 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 7, 2018).  Police and emergency services responded and found a 21-year-old deceased man lying on the Highway.  The victim is not a Kamloops resident, he said.

“It appears that he was struck by a vehicle and that vehicle did not remain at scene.”

Highway 5 southbound was closed for the investigation and traffic was being diverted west on Highway 1.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call Kamloops RCMP at 250 828 3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8277.
