POLICE – Loaded hand gun, drugs recovered at counter attack road block
A 32-year-old man is in custody after RCMP confiscated a number of items, including a semi-automatic handgun, at a counter attack road block early today (Dec. 23, 2017).
The incident took place about 12:42 a.m. as members of the Kamloops RCMP Municipal Traffic services along with Kamloops RCMP auxiliary officers were conducting a counter attack road block in the 200 block of Victoria Street West.
Cpl. Mike Scherpenisse said a man came through the road block and indicated that he did not have a driver’s license. A further check revealed that he was prohibited from driving, said Scherpenisse.
“While the officer was arresting the male, he noticed a small bag with a powder substance on the floor. A further search of the car, incident to arrest, located a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun as well as drugs and cash. The handgun had been reported as stolen. The male’s car was impounded for seven days. ”
He said the suspect is known to police and is not from the Kamloops area. Police will be recommending several charges including possession of a loaded restricted firearm, possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition, possession of stolen property, and driving while prohibited as well as drug charges.

A fine young fellow abiding by the terms of his release.
