POLICE – Hitchhiker in custody after truck driver held at gunpoint

A hitchhiker was taken into custody Monday night (Nov. 6, 2017) after he allegedly held a commercial truck driver at gunpoint after being picked up on Highway 5. The driver was unharmed.‎

Cpl. Dan Moskaluk of the Southeast District RCMP said Clearwater and Kamloops RCMP received a report at about 6:30 p.m. that a male hitchhiker was holding a commercial truck driver at gunpoint after being picked up near Avola.

The truck continued southbound and eventually was located and disabled by police near the highway weigh scales at Kamloops with the driver able to exit the vehicle unharmed.  The suspect was eventually taken into custody without incident mid evening.

The incident required a temporary road closure at the weigh scale area.
