POLICE – Two men wounded in shooting incident near Nelson Avenue

Two men were found with gunshot wounds today (Oct. 23, 2017) after shots were fired near Nelson Avenue.

Police responded at 11:40 a.m. and found one man with gunshot injuries at the McDonald’s near Northills Mall. Another man was found in the area, also with gunshot injuries. Both were taken to a nearby medical facility via ambulance.  Police didn’t say which facility, and said in a 2:30 p.m. statement it’s not known what the extent of their injuries is.

Police believe the shooting incident happened at 217 Nelson Ave.  Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit, General Duty, Target Enforcement Unit and the Police Dog Unit were in the area of Nelson Avenue continuing their investigation.  Police asked the public to avoid the area.

They said no suspect or suspects had been identified. Police are talking to witnesses and once a description has been obtained, it will be released to the public, said Cpl Jodie Shelkie.

Earlier, Arthur Hatton School was placed on a ‘Hold and Secure’ since it is a few blocks away from Nelson Avenue. However, at 1:45 p.m. it was lifted and the school resumed normal function.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the shooting on Nelson Avenue or has surveillance cameras in the area to please contact the Kamloops RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
