COLLINS – What were they thinking with some of those intersections?
I OFTEN QUESTION how decisions are made regarding the design of intersections in the city. Especially where they involve properties that are in a difficult spot. It is not easy to resolve.
I remember years ago, Councillor (then) John O’Fee commenting on a development with words to the effect (loose paraphrase cause I’m getting old and my memory is not that good) that you just couldn’t shut a property owner down from developing his property, and he had a right to be able to do business.
I agreed with the principle and still do. But it’s very scary when you look at some intersections.
One new problematic area is just up from Broadcast Centre. A new Starbucks and Domino’s have been located on the site where a gas station once stood at Columbia and McGill.
Doug Collins is the Director of News, Information and Television Operations at CFJC-TV. Doug has been on the air in Kamloops since 1970. He was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Radio-Television News Directors Association of Canada in 2008.

The City and council have a big upper hand on dictating good and reasonable guidelines for development. I brought up the same concerns about the Domino/Starbucks building with staff and council a few months ago and they all shrugged off my concerns…here we go again I was right!
Not only that, did anyone notice the idling going on in the drive-thru right across from an elementary school?
There again I was rebuffed as a “complainer” by none other than acting mayor Singh and the usual suspects at City Hall (aka senior managers).
We are not in good hands…isn’t clear to all of you yet?
