WHAT’S UP DOWNTOWN – Merchants Market includes sales, food, music
THE MOST ANTICIPATED week of the year in Downtown Kamloops is almost here – The Downtown Merchants Market from July 26 to 29. This 4-day event will feature sidewalk sales, live music and entertainment, a beer garden and more.
Here’s a rundown of beloved traditions and new events in 2017.
Wednesday the 26th will be the first day of stellar sidewalk sales. There will be live music throughout the Downtown core in addition to the Farmers Market on the 400 block of Victoria Street.
Thursday the 27th will feature Taste of Downtown from 11am-5pm. This is a delicious opportunity to try samples at 15+ participating restaurants! Simply buy a taste passport –8 tokens for $15- and exchange 1 token for 1 sample. Additional tokens cost $2. We’re delighted that the net proceeds from this event will be split between the Kamloops Food Bank and Artisans Alive music program.
Friday the 28th will have business in the front and a party out back. Brought to you in partnership by Downtown Kamloops and Brewloops, the 200 block alley between Victoria & Seymour Street will be transformed into a back alley block party. Skip out of work early for $1 off beers during Industry Hour from 4-5 p.m. or get food onsite from Mittz Kitchen, Fratelli Foods, Klasske’s Bistro & Jade Garden. We’re jazzed to enjoy live performances from local bands James & North Shore and At Mission Dolores between 7 and 9 pm.
Lastly, Saturday the 29th will be the 4th Annual Car Free Day from 10-4pm. The 200 and 300 blocks of Victoria Street will be closed to cars and opened up for free activities. Join in on a fitness class led by Barre Kamloops, play in Fan Cave Canada’s air hockey tournament, or try out People in Motion’s obstacle course! The parkades on Lansdowne & Seymour Street are free on weekends so take advantage of the space.
The Downtown Merchants Market is part of a bigger project, the Festival of Experiences. This project aims to enhance the Downtown experience through one-time events as well as ongoing programs and the CAP Team is a big part of making it all possible. We will see you at the Merchants Market!
