WHAT’S UP DOWNTOWN – Spring Fest: downtown’s arts and music festival
HAVE YOU noticed CAP Team pulling carts, pushing pianos, and popping up tents in the past few weeks in different pockets of the downtown core? Maybe you’ve seen us handing out posters, ticking off boxes on our clipboards or heard us speaking to a musician or merchant? Well, ponder no more as we’re excited to provide details on Spring Fest, which will run from May 26-28 throughout Downtown Kamloops!
Spring Fest will celebrate the diverse arts and music scene in Kamloops over the entire weekend. For the first time in DTK history, a parking lot will be converted into a pop-up plaza between the Kamloops Inn and Jonathan Buchner Gems & Jewellery. Stop by and lounge in a relaxation pod, listen to live music, create a masterpiece at the art cart, play a board game, and witness the creation of a 90-foot long mural on the side of Jonathan Buchner Gems & Jewellery.
Back by popular demand, an art auction will take place at this public plaza on Sunday as a fundraiser for the KCBIA to support future artists and musicians in downtown Kamloops. We’re thrilled that Bees & Bare Bones and At Mission Dolores will be performing at this location. However, it’s not just the pop-up plaza that will be abuzz with activity.
The Visitor Information Centre (340 Victoria Street) will host several interactive workshops over the weekend with the likes of Live Timber, Clinton the Magician, and Kamloops Drum Connection. At Lansdowne Village, expect to see the TRU Swing Dance Club twisting, shouting, and inviting the public to dance with them. Meanwhile, the TNRD Plaza will have art demonstrations and giant games like checkers, jenga, or connect four.
Last, but not least, many Downtown merchants are having promotions, events and staying open until 8:00pm on Friday night. For a full list of extended store hours and promotions, visit www.downtownkamloops.com!
We can’t wait to celebrate arts and music along the cobblestoned streets, under patio umbrellas, and in unique stores throughout the neighbourhood. So, remember to mark Spring Fest (May 26-28) in your calendars and RSVP to Spring Fest 2017 on our Facebook page.
See you out and about!
