POLICE – Search for Overlanders Bridge jumper comes up empty so far

For the second time in a week, police are looking for someone witnesses say jumped off the Overlanders bridge.

RCMP got a call today (May 4, 2017) at about 10:45 a.m. from someone who said they saw a jumper near the southeast end of the bridge. Police, CP police, fire and emergency health services responded immediately and were later joined by Search and Rescue.

Staff Sgt. Michel Grondin said an extensive search of the water and shores of the South Thompson failed to locate anyone.  Search and rescue called for a helicopter to continue the search from the air and will continue scouring both shores of the river for any signs of the person involved, said Grondin.

“Due to distance, the witness was unable to provide any specific description of the person.” Police are asking anyone from the public who may have seen the incident or anyone acting suspiciously on the bridge at or around 10:30 a.m. today, or anyone who may have information that can assist in identifying the person involved, to call the local RCMP office at 250-828-3000.

Last week, several witnesses saw a man jump off the bridge. He was found near the south end after swimming ashore, and taken to RIH with serious injuries.
