POLICE – Man stabbed trying to stop thief from stealing backpack
NANAIMO — A man walking along a pathway tried to stop a thief from ripping off his backpack and got stabbed for his troubles.
The incident happened Sunday, April 23 as the victim, in his mid 40s, was walking along a pathway behind a Chapters store in north Nanaimo about 11 a.m. A man approached from the opposite direction. No words were exchanged between the two but as they passed each other, the victim felt a pull at his back pack. He tried to prevent the theft and in doing so was stabbed with an unknown edged weapon.
The suspect fled with the victim’s backpack and jacket. Officers along with a police services dog were unable to locate him.
The victim went to a local hospital where he was treated for his injury then released.
