NANAIMO – Charges have been laid in connection with a shooting on Wednesday (April 19) that claimed the life of a 34-year-old man.
RCMP said today (April 20) that Brandon Tyler Woody, 30, of Victoria has been charged with one count of first degree murder and one count of possessing a firearm while prohibited to do so.
Woody has been remanded in custody until Tuesday, May 2, at which time he will appear in Nanaimo provincial court.
On Wednesday, officers responded to a report of shots fired at the Howard Johnson’s Hotel in Nanaimo.
When they arrived they found one person dead in the lobby of the hotel from apparent gun shots. About an hour later a vehicle was stopped by North Cowichan Duncan RCMP officers and a man was taken into custody without incident, followed later by the charges against Woody.
