POLICE – One ice fisherman found dead, one still missing, RCMP investigating

Red Lake is about 40 km. northwest of Kamloops.

RCMP have taken over the investigation into the death of one man and the disappearance of another who went overdue on an ice-fishing trip to Red Lake.

The Tk’emlúps RCMP detachment received a report of the missing fishermen about 7 p.m. Tuesday (April 11, 2017).  Police checked out the Red Lake area and found a truck and a snowmobile but there was no one around so Kamloops Search and Rescue carried out a search starting about 9 p.m., using a search drone with infrared technology.

The B.C. Coroner’s Service described the death of one the one man as “sudden.” No other details have been released.

Ice conditions on the snow-covered lake were said to be poor.

RCMP remained on the scene today.
