YOU SAY: ‘It would be cool if mayor committed to one or the other’
Some sample Facebook comments on ArmchairMayor.ca editorial “Should the mayor resign, or take a leave? It’s not complicated.” Please note that the issue is whether Peter Milobar should resign as mayor right after the provincial election if he becomes an MLA, in which case a by-election would be legally necessary, or if he should instead take a leave of absence from the mayor’s job until the following January, in which case a by-election wouldn’t be legally necessary. If he takes the latter option, council could hold an election within council to appoint one of its number as the interim mayor until the next civic election in later 2018. The point I was making in the editorial is that a by-election should be avoided due to high cost and expected low turnout, and that the mayor should commit now to not forcing a by-election, and instead leave the field clear for council to make an internal appointment.
Andy Philpot: If mayor resigns then Cavers would also need to resign and with Marg absent that leaves council 3 members down to 6.
Joe Davies: Upon opening a campaign office should be on a leave of absence, if elected should vacate the position on a leave of absence for the day after the election unless there is a need for a recount of the ballot.
Andrew Kurtz: It would be cool if he committed to one or the other. Stop the half assed attempts at doing both. Who wants to elect a candidate who isn’t fully invested.
Dave Oakley: He has been the most useless Mayor in Kamloops history….first he should have to pay for this by election out of his own pocket not public funds….second of all, i hope he wins so we can cut bait of that slug and move on to a more forward looking Mayor and hopefully City Council.
Allison Ryder: Hmmm.. An interim mayor from the remaining council members…scary.
Shawn Mcleod: They should all quit!!!

-In the novel it said, “Quizzically, he twisted his moustache handle, all the while contemplatively considering, ‘Just how _this_ became such an issue….?’ ” The secretary walked by his office the third time this morning, seeing to it that he was alright…. Oh the vagaries of Kamloops council.
