POLICE – Driver puts truck in wrong gear, smashes into 7-Eleven
The driver of a pickup truck gave new meaning to “drive-in” early today (Friday, March 17, 2017) when he put his vehicle into Drive instead of Reverse.
As a result, the truck drove into the 7-Eleven Convenience store on Tranquille Road.
It happened about 5:30 a.m., causing major damage to the store and injuring a store employee.
Cpl. Jodi Shelkie said the male driver and sole occupant of the vehicle had been in the store purchasing items. “After getting back into his vehicle, it appears that he mistakenly put the truck into drive instead of reverse,” she said.
An employee inside the store was injured either by the truck or the debris striking her. She was transported to Royal Inland Hospital with unknown injuries.
Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected as the cause of the accident, said Shelkie. The 35-year-old river was issued a violation ticket for driving without due care and attention.
