Yellowhead re-opens after head-on sends four to Royal Inland Hospital
The Yellowhead Highway was re-opened to traffic in both directions late Friday after being temporarily closed by a two-vehicle head-on collision north of Palmer Forsyth Road near Rayleigh.
Staff Sgt. Robert Daly said that as of 10 p.m. visibility in the area had improved but remained poor.
The collision involved a blue SUV and a Volkswagen. Daily said the snow storm that plagued the area all day was a factor in the crash. Police, ambulance and fire crews had to work in white snow conditions at the scene.
The “jaws of life” were needed to rescue the male driver of the Volkswagen. Four people were taken to Royal Inland Hospital with serious injuries but all are expected to make a full recovery.
Police were advising drivers to slow down and be patient and, if possible, not to travel at all.
