POLICE – Latest email scam asks for payment of traffic tickets

If you receive a traffic ticket in your email inbox, don’t pay it because it’s a scam. Kamloops RCMP say they’ve received many reports of the new scam.

RCMPFraudulent emails are sent to a private email address and say that the person owes money for a traffic violation, usually speeding.   There is a link in the email that says it has a photo of the owner’s vehicle committing the violation. Some have a link asking for immediate payment or for personal information.

“If you receive an email like this do not click the links, and delete the email,” states Cpl. Shelkie. “The RCMP does not issue traffic tickets via email and officers do not ask for email addresses during a traffic stop.”
