LETTER – Turns out Coun. Walsh was right all along about wine issue
A few months ago Coun. Walsh mounted a charge to keep liquor out of grocery stores. One of his concerns was allowing only BC wines on the shelves would bring down the wrath of the Americans. As Denis tried to point out, allowing B.C. wines was only the thin edge of the sword. Soon it would be anything goes. Something about annoying free trade agreements.
For his efforts his follow councilors turn their backs on him, the wine industry painted him as being anti British Columbian and the public ridicule him. What did this guy know? Turns out he knew quite a bit. As CBC News reported:
“California wine lobby group says U.S. to file complaint over B.C. liquor reforms”
Did anyone really think the Americans and the rest of Canada for that matter would stand by and allow B.C. to restrict outsider access to the booze market?
Wish more of our elected folk had Denis’s foresight!

The issue of wine in grocery stores will be over soon, by restricting sales to BC Wines, they have effectively doomed the kiosk sales. From the outset the government misunderstood what the “people” wanted, what we wanted was sales of all alcohol in grocery stores with prices set by competition, we don’t want expensive BC wines, we want competition in price and quality and we want it as it is in California and Arizona, available wherever a merchant wishes to take the sales on, but what we want is to be able to purchase our favourite wines at favourable prices. All done all wrong by the BC GOV.

He is also correct on his position on Ajax/KGHM mine. This guy does his homework and should be fully supported, are the other Councillors listening?
Good replacement for Melbatoast.
