A black Jeep is being investigated by Kamloops RCMP today (Monday, Nov. 7, 2016) in connection with the hit-and-run death of a Kamloops teen Friday night.

The vehicle was located in a driveway on Sunshine Court and was parked this morning behind police tape, with a blue tarp covering its front end. CFJC Today has published photos of the vehicle.

Cpl. Jodie Shelkie said forensic testing will be done on the SUV but that it has not been confirmed as the one involved in the accident. Police have interviewed the owner but have told media no one has been taken into custody.

“We have received many tips and are following up on them,” she told Radio NL of the investigation into the death of Jenn Gatey, who would have turned 17 on Saturday. “At this time we have nothing linking us to the hit and run.”

Shelkie ruled out weather as a factor in the hit and run. “The roads that night were bare and dry. It was not raining. It was not snowing,” she said.

Cameron Gatey, Jennifer Gatey’s father, has asked the driver to turn him or herself in to police.

Saturday, RCMP released a fuzzy surveillance-camera video of an SUV passing along a residential street.

Saturday night, more than 100 people attended a candlelight vigil for Jenn Gatey in her Aberdeen neighbourhood.
